Quincy vs. the Punk Rockers

This is a gem: Quincy MD vs. the Punk Rockers (aka the boredom fighters).

Thanks J-Man.

The best Super Bowl commercials: Bridgestone

The best Super Bowl commercials were the Bridgestone tire commercials. They were the funniest and the most memorable. The Sales Genie ads were also very memorable but for all the wrong reasons, one of which is Pandas with stereotypical Chinese accents. This page has all the ads.

Beer is my friend: Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout

I found myself at the Whole Foods the other day. When I shop at Whole Foods the outcome is rarely good. I shop there and I think: this place is great, everything is healthy and organic. What happens is I end up buying a cart full of decadent carbs and beer. Whole Foods is 1% healthy and the other 99% is pure decadence.

Anyway, the other day I came home with a 6 pack of Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout; it’s decadent, and it’s a tasty beer. As the name suggests it is both a stout and chocolaty — not sweet chocolate, dark, bitter chocolate. It’s almost like drinking a Guinness (the benchmark for stouts) mixed with a little cocoa and some cold coffee — I’ve mixed Guinness and cold coffee before and it takes the stout experience to a whole other level of the game. Back to the Black Chocolate Stout: the head is thick, and forms quickly — at first it’s almost pudding-like — unlike Guinness, but unique and remarkable.

Overall I’d give this beer an 8 out of 10, and I will buy it again.

RPM Challenge: Day 1 & 2

Here’s my schedule for the RPM Challenge:

Week 1: Read KLF’s book The Manual, rebuild my Mac for recording, check equipment and cables, study programming the Korg and Boss. Attempt to get a good sound out of the Schecter bass. Build a playlist of the 20 cheeziest “alternative” pop hits as my inspiration (I ordered Tubthumping for a cent online). List ideas for songs, and develop lyrics. Spend an hour adding people on my MySpace page.

Week 2: Write the songs according to patterns found in The Manual. Lyrics and melodies should be done by end of the week. Start programming.

Week 3: Finish programming and start recording.

Week 4: Complete recording, master and mail the disk. Make a video of one of the songs.

Current status: yesterday I read a few chapters of The Manual. As I am not on the dole, following the plan to the letter might be a challenge — skipping to the bit about writing the songs. Not getting any interesting sounds by running the bass through the Boss, so I will default to the Bass Pod. Today (2/2) is a waste: I need to pay bills, clean the apartment, do the laundry, buy more beer and snacks, go to the roller derby and Supersuckers show tonight (not my idea).

Status on state vector collapses project.

I dream of Lily Allen

Last night after some beers I had a dream that I was fooling around with British pop singer Lily Allen. In the dream, the fooling around stopped at a certain crucial point, and Lily walked out of the room. Later I was hanging out with some friends, and I was recanting the experience, and my friend said “well, she’s going out with the guy from the Chemical Brothers”, and I looked and there he was in the room.

So anyway, I crack open the old web browser today and ooze over to dlisted, where I found this article about Lily and the Chemical Brother breaking up. Sweet. She’s single again. That means that tonight we’ll go all the way.
