Durian fruit

Last Wednesday was my birthday. My sister made me this awesome cake that features my severed head:

She also gave me a Durian fruit. The durian features hundreds of sharp points, and it’s heavy — at least as heavy as a watermelon. If someone dropped it on you from a height of ten feet, it would really hurt, and possibly send you to the hospital.

I sawed the durian open with a large serrated knife. On the inside the durian is separated into several chambers, and each chamber features large seeds covered with a creamy, custardy delicious flesh. It tastes like a pineapple-fig custard.

Durian is most famous for its smell though. The durian did stink, but it wasn’t repulsive. It sort of smelled like a rotting fruit.

Rat Bastard is back!

My friend and Jersey resident Cliff Galbraith is back with his newest incarnation of his Rat Bastard comic book. In the 1990s Rat Bastard was a paper comic, in the 2000s it almost became a TV series, and now it’s back as a web comic.

Rat Bastard features the exploits of Roscoe Rat a human-rat hybrid & private detective. If memory serves me, Rat Bastard takes place in the future when human-animal hybrids are common place, people ride flying motorcycles and giant cat robots are a problem (my brain just ran out of writing juice).

I enjoyed reading the original Rat Bastard comics, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the web version as well.

Coffee cubes - coffee ice cubes

Am I the only person who makes coffee cubes? They’re good to cool down super-hot coffee, and excellent for alcoholic beverages that mix well with coffee. I make them with the coffee that’s left over in the pot, and once it’s cool (don’t want to melt the plastic ice cube trays).

Aquatic Ape Hypothesis is an audio odyssey spanning the genres of electronic rock, ambient, acid rock, funk and soundtrack instrumental music, and inspired by futurism, B-movies, science fiction, science fact, NASA, space exploration, Japanese giant monsters, fish, cicada insects, and even Flipper. Instruments used include: mandolin, bass, electric guitar, Stylophone, various Korg keyboards & sound devices, a Bliptronic 5000, BOSS drum machine, a “Take Back the Noise” bent-circuit noise device, an iMac, and my throat.

The album was recorded as part of the 2010 RPM challenge, so it had to be competed in the month of February of 2010, and it had to be 10 tracks of original music. I recorded the album after work on weekdays and on weekends — it might have taken 100 hours to plan, write, record, mix, edit and review.
