Steve Heller’s Retro Rocket Sculptures

Last weekend I went camping in the Catskills for a buddy’s bachelor party, and on my way to the campsite I spotted what looked like rocket ships tricked out to look like 1950s custom cars. The artist who created these custom culture works of art is Steve Heller, and you can find his shop on route 28 in Boiceville, New York. If you’re in the area, it’s worth the trip to check out the sculptures and Steve’s custom-car inspired furniture.

They don’t make album covers like this anymore

Album art has been a dying art ever since the CD first hot music store shelves. Now an “album cover” is a postage stamp sized thing that appears in a tiny iPod window. Feh!

This is the cover for Enoch Light’s Spaced Out, one of the better album covers ever printed on a 12″ square piece of cardboard. Here’s more information about the album, and here’s more info about Enoch Light (no relationship to Enoch the Sleestack).

Killing is my business, and business is good…

No not the Megadeth album! “Killing is my business, and business is good…” is the title of an 11′ tall artwork I purchased over the weekend at the Cry Baby Gallery in Asbury Park. The artist is Charlie Owens. Recession be dammed! I saw it and had to have it.

Grounds for Sculpture

Grounds for Sculpture is a huge outdoor museum in Hamilton, New Jersey, and it’s become a tradition for my friends to go there on Black Friday. They have a bar on premises that serves fancy Belgian beers which is always a plus.

Here’s a sampling of this years photos:
